California Projects

In recognition of the influential role California plays in establishing environmental and health policies that have national impact, HBN has worked since its inception to support leading edge environmental health and green building policy initiatives in California.

  • For over 5 years HBN has worked closely with Kaiser Permanente to develop contract specifications that have spurred the introduction of healthier green products for the health care market. We continue to work with California health care systems to drive the development of green and healthy building materials.
  • In 2007 year HBN played a leadership role in persuading the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to establish the nation’s most stringent restrictions on formaldehyde emissions from particle board and other composite wood products.
  • HBN is working with the Collaborative on High Performance Schools to develop more effective screens for unhealthy chemicals emitted from building materials used in schools, and have done research for the City of San Francisco in support of its dioxin-free procurement policy.
