POSITION: Director of Foundation Relations
The Healthy Building Network (HBN) is expanding its fundraising department to keep pace with program growth. We are seeking a motivated, experienced development professional for the newly created position of Director of Foundation Relations. This position is located in Washington, DC and reports to the Director of Development. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and execute an annual plan for foundation relations that includes prospecting, proposal writing and grant administration.
Primary Areas of Responsibility and Specific Duties:
Cultivation and Prospecting
- Develop and execute an annual cultivation and prospecting strategy
- Research and identify new sources of foundation funding
- Initiate new relationships with foundation officers
Writing Grant Proposals, Letters of Interest, Reports and Donor Correspondence
- Collaborate closely with senior staff to develop effective letters of interest and full proposals
- Assemble all materials including budgets, application forms, proposal narratives and attachments according to foundation guidelines and timelines
Grants Management
- Prepare acknowledgements and all routine donor correspondence
- Track deadlines for reporting and renewals
- Coordinate the fulfillment of grant requirements and reporting to the grantor
Administrative & Other Duties
- Ensure that files on current and potential funding sources, as well as all other pertinent information about pending and awarded grants, is maintained
- Attend weekly staff meetings and other development related meetings
- Take part in other development activities as time and experience allow
The Successful Candidate Displays the Following Skills:
- Ability to succeed in a "virtual" work environment in which the principle means of communication and collaboration with colleagues and supervisors are often email and conference calling
- Ability to prioritize in order to meet submission deadlines and to organize large quantities of written materials, including budgets, logically and cohesively
- Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to write factually, persuasively and professionally to advocate HBN's position on issues
- Strong verbal communication and excellent project management skills
- Ability to comply with detailed written directions and guidelines
- Superb attention to detail and strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and follow projects through to completion
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively with program and finance staff, as well as with outside organizations, to develop funding prospects and manage grants
- Knowledge of fundraising database systems
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software, and familiarity with completing on-line grant requests
- Experience with high technology or affordable housing funders a plus, but not a prerequisite
- Background in environmental and social activism helpful, but not a prerequisite
Required Education & Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required
- A minimum of five of years experience with a positive track record writing grants and reports and engaging new funders is needed

Salary & Benefits:
Salary is $45,000 - $55,000 depending on experience, plus excellent benefits.
